The Spring and Fall book sales are the main fundraisers for the Friends. Donated books are sorted by Friends volunteers into the various categories and genres during the week preceding the sale. The sale begins on Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday when books go on sale for $10 a bag. Friends volunteers man each day of the sale. Unsold books are donated to other agencies or recycled.
Lobby Book Sales
The ongoing book sale in the lobby raises money for the Friends and is well used by patrons.
Book bags, flash drives and various other items are for sale by the Friends and are available throughout the year at the Circulation and Reference & Information desks.
Funds raised by our twice yearly book sales, lobby sales, book bags and other
items have funded many Library programs and projects. Because of help from the
Friends, the Library is able to use taxpayer monies for books and other essential
items while still offering many programs and services. Some of the things the
Friends have done, and continue to do include:
- Purchase of incentives for all Summer Reading programs.
- Sponsor the Summer Reading Program Ice Cream Social.
- Sponsor the Babysitter Training program in Youth Services.
- Sponsor the Young Adult Exam Crams.
- Sponsor the Carnegie Building paver brick program.
- Purchased the aquarium in Youth Services and share maintenance costs.
- Purchased Assistive Listening System in Huntley Meeting Room.
- Purchased display cabinets in Youth Services and Carnegie Community Room.
- Purchased book drops (5).
This is just a small portion of what the Friends have contributed over the years.
We believe that our award-winning Library is a vital part of our community and
are committed to its continued pursuit of excellence.
